Chicken & Waffles, Fried Biscuits and a Gospel Brunch

Keeping with this month’s theme of ‘dish’ I am once again straying a bit from today’s prompt. Why? Two reasons, first I don’t remember a food that I dreaded being served in my childhood and second because I am busy making reservations for our upcoming road trip.

Food always plays a big part of our travel. Not the simple we have to eat because we have to eat kind of food but the “wow, if you visit such and such place you have to eat at xyz” kind of food. Over the years I have learned which of my friends gives the best advice when it comes local specialties and I make sure to take notes when they post pictures and props for their new finds and favorites on social media.

This month we are off to Las Vegas and Los Angeles so a stop at Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles in Hollywood is top of the list. The Carol C. Special is my personal favorite, a perfectly fried chicken breast accompanied by a delicious waffle. This little diner doesn’t look like much but the service is great and the food is worth going back for. You don't need reservations at Roscoe's but it can get busy so be prepared to wait if you go at lunch time.

Another favorite Hollywood stop is the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shoppe next to the El Capitan Theatre. We were fortunate to attend an advanced screening event of "Inside Out" in June and, not to be outdone, the soda fountain featured "Inside Out" sundaes that included memory balls. The featured sundae always comes with a commemorative pin so fun, delicious and a nice little souvenir of your visit.

Next on our list is a meal at the Carthay Circle restaurant at Disney California Adventure Park. Located on Buena Visit Street, this restaurant takes you back to the time of old Hollywood. You can’t help but feel the glamour of this well-appointed space. The service is excellent and makes you feel like a VIP. On our last visit, we sat out on the balcony. This is a perfect spot to enjoy the view of Buena Vista Street and the Pixar Play Parade from above.

Be sure to have some of their Carthay Signature Fried Biscuits. These are ‘to die for’. Scrumptious little biscuits, filled with gooey melted cheese and served with apricot honey butter. They are not to be missed!

We enjoyed the World of Color dining package in June since we hadn't yet seen the new production celebrating Disneyand's Diamond Anniversary. It's a great show and the meal package is one splurge that is certainly worth it.

There are so many fun places to try when you are travelling. I’d love to hear about your local favorites!
