Star Wars - The Force Awakens Right in Your Own Home

Star Wars - The Fore Awakens comes to the small screen this week
In honor of Star Wars - The Force Awakens Blue-Ray release this week, I thought I'd post a review I did after I'd seen it the first time. After seeing it again with our daughters and grandson, I think I enjoyed it even more.

The latest installment in the Star Wars Franchise, The Force Awakens, harkens back to the classic Star Wars (1977). Back are the heroes from the original, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker, joined by a trio of young heroes assisted by an endearing little droid, the wildly popular BB-8.

The heroine Rey, a young scavenger played by 23-year-old Daisy Ridley, displays a talent with her staff that can only be compared to that of Luke Skywalker with his light saber. Rey convinces a pessimistic Finn (John Boyega) to join her in a secret mission that has been given to her by BB-8. Under attack by the First Order, they escape in the Millenium Falcon. Is this storyline sounding familiar?

We are also reunited with Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2. Yes, our favorite characters take us on a journey back to basics, good vs. evil, and the battle of Dark vs. Light sides of the Force.

This J.J. Abrams directed product, the first under the Disney banner, won’t fail to please Star Wars fans, young and old alike. Unlike the Prequel Trilogy, this movie relies more heavily on relationships rather than mind-numbing discussions of the midi-chlorian counts of potential Jedi knights. I appreciate that George Lucas was eager to have us understand, as he did, how we got to the beginning of Episode IV – A New Hope, but there was little of the original comradery visible in the prequels.

Judging by the enthusiastic reception of the El Capitan Theatre audience, this film is going to be a winner. They jeered and cheered at all of the right moments, both for the old stalwarts as well as the new. Once again we have a cast of characters that we want to spend an evening with. I can’t wait for the next installment.
